Also, are you unable to send emails at all ? or just to a few remote domains ?

Looks like something is blocking 25, the best is to telnet and go through the links

Check your router / firewall ;
Try telneting when you are local to the mailserver (from your lan to your local mail server on port 25)
telnet <mailserver local ip> 25
telnet <mailserver local dns name> 25
If you can connect locally, then you would need to open Port 25 on your router / firewall

From within your LAN ( ON your mailserver's web browser) open the following website :

http://www.canyouseeme.org/

this will allow you to see what ports are publicly accessible / visible.

What Port?       25

Success: I can see your service on (IP Address) on port (25)
Your ISP is not blocking port 25

Are you using a smart host or DNS records to send mail out ?

Have you tried sending an email to hotmail or gmail or yahoo ? see if that goes through (if you haven't already)

What are your DNS settings :

Step-1

In EMC, expand Server Configuration and click on Hub Transport. Click Properties under Actions. On the External DNS Lookups tab, the default is to use the network card DNS settings. You can specify a list of DNS server to use instead

Step-2 :

Go to, Organization Configuration - Hub Transport and click on Send Connectors tab. open Properties page for your Internet send connector, go to the Network tab and check the box beside "Use the External DNS Lookup settings on the transport server

Check the accepted solution on

How long did you have had this exchange server ?

Check your ptr record, if your emails are being rejected by hotmail or gmail or yahoo, then its the ptr (reverese dns) issue

go on mxtoolbox.com and do a check on your server, that will give us more.

it seems to me the PTR issue (reverse dns at your isp) ;

check mxtoolbox and see what comes up on there

I will be able to get back on this after 4pm UK time

Check the screen shots and verify the settings

after the above steps, you may have to restart the exchange services

http://www.amset.info/exchange/shutdown-script.asp

You can use the script to restart / start / stop exchange services from the above location (The script is written by Mestha - Exchange Guru)

In your DNS settings try to use 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1 and see if that helps ?

Post back, i am also looking into it further - just got back from work :-0

by: mutahirPosted on 2009-11-04 at 11:47:50ID: 25743136

Above are the steps again which I posted earlier (from the link) ; check your dns settings here ; and specify the 4.2.2.2 dns servers here in this screenshot and restart the exchange services and see if that helps.

this scrshot is step -1, then follow step - 2

Mutuhir:
THANK YOU!!!
I will look at this when I get off from work & be home tonight

ALSO,
Verizon has these two IP in their router:
68.238.64.12
68.238.128.12
instead of 4.2.2.2 & 1 (used to be these two DNS addresses)
do I still add them according to your post?

We can work on this ticket here unless you want to open a new one :

What I am thinking now after reading each and everything again on this page :

a) If there was nothing changed on your side, no router configuration / firewall configuration / internet provider configuration, then it can be :

routing error at your ISP or the recipients ISP
the receiving server is rejecting the message
the receiving server is not alive
the receiving server cannot be connected.

I will post a screenshot (forget the rest) then tell us what dns servers you have in that place, also is there a way you can replace your router for test reasons ? what kind of firewall do you have ?

I think its your router or firewall playing up - just a suggestion - don't make any changes , just let me know which one is it

You don't use any mail gateways ? like message labs or email filtering ?

by: howienPosted on 2009-11-06 at 08:23:46ID: 25760501

Mutahir:
for sure I will need to create a new ticket - it's getting very confusing for me and time I've cost for all EE Master!

and you are right on target - a master point of view!
I was in the market shopping for a gateway modem last night (without firewall / wireless feature)
after I found out no more hair to pull from my head...
----
anyway, verison provide whatever in stock - take it or leave it
in sbs2008 - it's firewall enabled since I disabled my modem/router firewall feature
what I didn't understand which I don't want to go back from here... it was working as soon as it was built, setup & deployed... (send/receive)

I can't ssy nothing has changed after I followed all your post/comment (of course, not what we've talked about on "changes")

I am just saying that I made all these changes (according to this closed ticket history) and I think I've come up with these issue: (are you ready?)

I ran "fix my network" from windows sbs console - it report "router" and "smtp" error (CAN'T BE CORRECT?!)

I can't do anything because I need internet - if I plan to replace this modem/remote

I don't understand why it shown remote.servername.com on this server's certificate instead of FQDN?
(all host A & MX records & IP address has been verified with hosting)

if you need a screenshot - I will provide later (don't have word installed on server)

I will open ticket for these subjects in order not to confuses everyone and left my dancing alone!

there's more! but...
thanks for reading - where's my patient?
