Question

There is currently no route to the mailbox database in Exchange 2007

Asked by: lanman_ta

I am unable to send mail to a Exchange 2007 public folder.
THe mail comes in from the internet through ISA Server 2006 to an Exchange 07 edge server then to the public folder located on a CAS/Hub Transport Server
Those are the only servers in the exchange implementation.

This is the error
Identity: Exchange-01\Unreachable\107
Subject: test
Internet Message ID: <B609C488F2E7454B80999A1340ED325D@xxx.xxx.net>
From Address: xxx@xxx.net
Status: Ready
Size (KB): 2
Message Source Name: SMTP:Default EXCHANGEserver

Expiration Time: 11/8/2009 4:10:39 PM
Last Error: There is currently no route to the mailbox database
Queue ID: Exchange-serverUnreachable
Recipients:  xxx@xxx.xxxx.net

I saw a similar error on here, but not a solution that worked.
How do I resolve this?

Is the public folder viewable through OWA rom the outside?
Can mail be sent to the public folder successfully from internal?
Is the ISA patched up to SP1 and have you deployed the ISA2006 supportability update?
If you view the ISA realtime monitor and send in a mail from outside to the public folder, what is seen in the log? Does it pass through or get denied?

Public folders are available from outside I believe
All of our internal mail is filltered through a smarthost and is virus scanned externally prior to going in to our internal mailboxes.
ISA is patched to SP1
The supportability patch was not installed as I started at SP1 which already had the fix in the code.

If I assign the email address to a mailbox user, it works fine. If I assign the email address to a distribution group, it works fine. It provides the error above.
The message makes it through ISA server, edge server and ti mailbox server.

When I installed Exchnage 2007 initially, I did not tell it I had users with previous versions of outlook. It did not create the public folder hierarchies within the exchange organization. fortunately for me, this had not been rolled out yet and I was able to reinstall the mailbox role and select yes for previous versions of outlook support(public folders)
