Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      MSExchangeTransport
Event Category:      TransportService
Event ID:      12014
Date:            11/7/2009
Time:            5:33:43 AM
User:            N/A
Computer:      SMOKESIGNAL
Description:
Microsoft Exchange could not find a certificate that contains the domain name SMOKESIGNAL.ch13-12westtex.org in the personal store on the local computer. Therefore, it is unable to support the STARTTLS SMTP verb for the connector Default SMOKESIGNAL with a FQDN parameter of SMOKESIGNAL.ch13-12westtex.org. If the connector's FQDN is not specified, the computer's FQDN is used. Verify the connector configuration and the installed certificates to make sure that there is a certificate with a domain name for that FQDN. If this certificate exists, run Enable-ExchangeCertificate -Services SMTP to make sure that the Microsoft Exchange Transport service has access to the certificate key.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Event Category:      TransportService
Event ID:      12024
Date:            11/7/2009
Time:            5:33:43 AM

Computer:      SMOKESIGNAL
Description:
Microsoft Exchange could not load the certificate with thumbprint of B535C1C5D4FA4B6DAD36DB35086A672CE0E303BD from the personal store on the local computer. This certificate was configured for authentication with other Exchange servers. Mail flow to other Exchange servers could be affected by this error. If the certificate with this thumbprint still exists in the personal store, run Enable-ExchangeCertificate B535C1C5D4FA4B6DAD36DB35086A672CE0E303BD -services SMTP to resolve the issue. If the certificate does not exist in the personal store, restore it from backup by using the Import-ExchangeCertificate cmdlet, or create a new certificate for the FQDN or the server enabled for SMTP by running the following command: New-ExchangeCertificate -DomainName serverfqdn -Services SMTP. Meanwhile, an ephemeral, self-signed certificate with thumbprint 324106A0F1F4CC6BAFC4500A59006A7A6C6EEBEE is being used.

hmm..looks like a dns-problem
May you describe what exactly is not working...not only provide the logs :-)
Machine is new ?
Exchange-Server = DC?
SMOKESIGNAL.ch13-12westtex.org = your domain`?

by: eetheredgePosted on 2009-11-07 at 04:31:46ID: 25766028

The Transport Service and the System Attendant Mailbox stops unexpectedly.  This is not a new machine.  It has been operable for over a year.  It's not a DC and ch13-12westtex.org is the domain.

Can you run the command
Get-MailboxStatistics and see if you get the information about the System Attendant Mailbox.
As far as i think the System Attendant service does not crash or stop
Also is this Windows 2008 ??
Is this environment migrated from Exchange 2000 - 2003 ??

by: eetheredgePosted on 2009-11-09 at 12:01:40ID: 25779397

No, this is a W2K3 R2 box.  We started on Exchange 2003.

by: RancyPosted on 2009-11-09 at 22:58:18ID: 25782974

Ohk ....

Can you run the command
Get-MailboxStatistics and see if you get the information about the System Attendant Mailbox.

Also can you tell me how Exchange 2003 was removed from the environment ??

by: eetheredgePosted on 2009-11-10 at 09:21:16ID: 25787534

Yes, I get information about the System Attendant Mailbox.  The Exchange 2003 environment was decomissioned according the steps outlined by Microsoft (I do not remember the exact KB article number).

I have double checked our internal DNS and verified accuracy.

Could this error be in reference to permissions set on the System Attendant Mailbox?

by: RancyPosted on 2009-11-13 at 05:54:07ID: 25813826

Is this Windows 2003 or Windows 2008 ??
