Browse All TopicsWhen we were running Exchange 2003, we used Windows Messenger (WM) for inter-office IM. We recently upgraded to Exchange 2007 but since it doesn't support WM, we kept our old Exch2003 server on-line for WM purposes only. We intend to replace WM with something else, but for now, WM is what we're using. Ever since the Exch2007 migration, we cannot add new users to the WM list of IM members. So we tried to uninstall Exch2003 from the old server and reinstall it with the WM components only. Now IM doesn't work at all! It won't allow anyone to sign in. Any ideas? We some answers ASAP! Thanks!!

You are mistaken that it was Exchange 2003 you were using before - as IM was removed from that version. Exchange 2000 was the only version to have a built in IM application.
The only way that you would have IM on Exchange 2003 was if you also have LCS installed on the machine, with CALs grandfathered in if you had SA at the time of Exchange 2003 release.
Now you would be looking at OCS, which works very well with Exchange 2007.

There is no support for the messenger service in Exchange 2007 (I thought it was only Exchange 2000 that supported this).
You will need to loom at Microsoft Office Live Communication Server
