Question

PDA Exchange Sync

Asked by: premillard

I am trying to get my PDA to sync with my exchange server. Is there a service on the exchange server or a port on my firewall I need to open?
I've never set up syncing with Exchange before so I don't know what I am missing.

The PDA is the new Droid, the exchange server is 2003.
The PDA has wizard that walks you through setting up the exchange sync and then seems to test the connection and the test seems to be successful but email and contacts are not coming through.

Its good that atleast u r able to sync but u cant see emails. Can try disabling third party services like anti-virus on the exchange box and check.

The ports u need is 80 and 443 for Exchange ActiveSync communication.
Also check the connectivity test on http://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com
Also look for method 2 in below given article which is most common for Single Exchange 2003 with FBA and SSL enabled.

I can't get anything to sync. the PDA just tests the connection and it seems to pass. Do I have to install Active Sync on the Exchange server?

Oddly enough. In IIS the Microsoft-Server-Activesync virtual directory is empty. Does that seem right?
Does anyone have access to an exchange server to check if there sould be something in this virtual directory?

Thanks,

The problem seems to be the Droid.  You are not the only one having this issue.  You can google several discussions on this issue.  One suggestion was to leave SSL enabled but uncheck the other box on that screen.  This article is the best summary of using droid in an exchange environment although it's not going to give you your solution.

It's fixed!! Thanks for the input but that wasn't it.
I had to finally get Microsoft on the phone. I couldn't afford to waste any more time on this. I kept receiving Event ID: 9667 in the Event Viewer.
We had to change a registry setting to increase the number of named properties as it was preventing Active Sync from functioning. I have to do some more reading up on it to get a good understanding of it.
I was able to get the Droid to work perfectly with Exchange Active Sync. Email, Calendar and Contacts all came right through.
Please feel free to contact me if you ever run into this same scenario and need assistance.

Good to hear.  Can you post the registry change?  There are many people who would like to know the resolution.  Also, I'm hearing that tasks are not part of either the sync or maybe it's the Droids functionality.  Can you confirm this?

by: premillardPosted on 2009-11-09 at 11:02:14ID: 25778851

You are correct and that's the one thing that does bum me out.
It is a Droid limitation that it does NOT sync Tasks.
I will post the Event Description and the registry fix soon.

When trying to sync a PDA using Exchange Active Sync the following error shows up in the Applications Event Log: Event ID: 9667

Here is the description:
Failed to create a new named property for database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (SERVERNAME)" because the number of named properties reached the quota limit (8192).
User attempting to create the named property: "SYSTEM"
 Named property GUID: 00020329-0000-0000-c000-000000000046
 Named property name/id: "AirSyncCustom:wipeinitiated"

Resolution to be performed on the Exchange Server:
in registry editor navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/MSExchangeIS/SERVERNAME
Expand SERVERNAME and in both the Private and Public folders add the following:

New DWORD value called "Named Props Quota", Modify the value Decimal Base 32766
New DWORD value called "Replids Quota", Modify the value Decimal Base 32766
New DWORD value called "NonMAPI Named Props Quota", Modify the value Decimal Base 32766
Restart IIS
