Event 3005 - ActiveSync error in SBS when iPhone syncs

Okay, this one is driving me crazy.

Windows SBS 2003 SP2.

I have 2 iPhone users who are filling my app log up with events 3005 (source ActiveSync):

Unexpected Exchange mailbox Server error: Server: [server.mycompany.local] User: [auser@mycompany.com] HTTP status code: [501]. Verify that the Exchange mailbox Server is working correctly.

I have tweaked all kinds of settings for the virtual directories, then eventually followed this guide at http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Fixing-Damaged-Incorrectly-Configured-OWA-2003-Installation.html to delete and recreate them all. Same error.

Help!

Check out one of EE's top Exchange experts FAQ here: https://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/A_1798-Exchange-2003-Activesync-Connection-Problems-FAQ.html
This should give you everything you need, if it doesn't come back and we can check it out.

I am sure alan himself will be along shortly too :-)
speak of the devil :-)
Or even before you get there Glen!!!
You may also want to check the IIS Settings:
Right clock on Each and select properties then under Directory Security check the Secure Communication setting and the Authentication and Access control and make sure they are the folowing:

  • Default Website
    ---> Annonymous & Integrated
    ---> NO SSL
  • Exadmin
    ---> Integrated
    ---> NO SSL
  • Exchweb
    ---> Annonymous
    ---> NO SSL
  • Exchange
    ---> Basic
    ---> SSL Optional
  • RPC
    ---> Basic
    ---> SSL Required
  • OMA
    ---> Basic
    ---> SSL Optional
    -> Public
    ---> Basic & Integrated
    ---> SSL Optional
  • exchange-oma
    ---> Basic & Integrated
    ---> NO SSL
  • Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
    ---> Basic
    ---> SSL Optional
That looks familiar ;-)

Sorry- I forgot to mention that ActiveSync is working for these users. Mail, contacts and calendar are all syncing both ways. The event log, however, continues to collect these events.
Is the IP Address on your default website set to all unassigned or a specific IP Address?  It should be all unassigned.

Unassigned. I am using host headers on the default site. I am also using assigned/host headers on other websites.

does look like host headers on the default were my problem.  much thanks
Excellent - glad you are sorted.
Thanks for the points.
Alan
I'm experiencing the exact same issue.  3005 in the Event Log, calendar and contacts sync, mail folders appear, but mail itself just does not flow to the iPhone.

I do not have host headers on my default website and am using "all unassigned" IP addresses.  I have compared all of the security settings to another server that is working, but cannot find a solution.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
