EdgeTransport.exe - bandwidth high usage

hi all,

I have notice that for the past 2 nights my badwidth is high during the night. i have equal spikes (see attached image) i opened peformance monitor and i have noticed that it is caused by edgetransport.exe with address... ibis-remarkablespark (see attached image) this process is running every 15 min with the same address.

im monitoring disk usage but it doesnt incrase even tho the process is downloading around 50-60 mb each time it runs.

i have GFI mail security and GFI mail essentials.

How can i stop it ?

Well ibis are a software proivder to the tourism industry in Queenstown, their office are at Remarkables Park http://website.ibisnz.com/tourismsoftware/activityoperator.html

My guess is that your company is ether emailing them reports or some such and or receiving them or updates? You probably do not see any disk usage increases because the mail database will write to white space before growing emails/files whatever would be filling that white space not taking up new space....possibly?

I would start by finding out who uses their software and or has deals with them and find out from them.

we do use ibis software.
it wasnt happening before and Ibis is not installed on my exchange server either. its point of sale software. from graphs i can tell it is downloading something

Hi,

I have contacted Ibis.

They sent an email with big attachment to one of my users, and since it was big my server has rejected it. But their server was keep on trying to resend it. How can i prevent it from happening in the future. Likely it was from someone we know, what if it was a spammer ?

by the way i have exchange 2007 sp2

You could maybe arrange to have this data ftp'd to yourselves or better still have ibis set up an ftp server so that your user can get the data that way...failing that get them to mail the data via the postal service.

I would not modify exchange to allow such large emails unless you really really must for the spam reason you mentioned, so keep rejecting as your doing.

At least now you know the cause, so just find a work arround, above are some of your options.

but why does it consume the bandwidth ? Graph shows me that it looks like exchange is downloading whole big attachment before rejecting it.

That's exactly what it's doing, it won't know how big the email is until it has been recieved, crazy I know.
