Exchange 2007 SP1 Service pack upgrade
We are looking to upgrade to Service pack 3 for Exchange. It is currently running on a windows 2008R2 server which is a domain controller which is on a separate domain than our corporate parent domain.. xxxxexch domain is where Exchange resides and the parent domain is abcd.local domain.
What is the best approach and precautions to take besides backup of the Exchange and domain controller. This is also a virtualized server running on Xenapp.
Does AD prep have to be re run in order to apply SP3?
Can this be run from the GUI or does it have to be from the command shell?

Oh, one more thing... also disable any file-based A/V or host-based anti-malware before performing the SP3 install. I also just noticed you were going from 2007 SP1 to SP3, but it still doesn't change anything from my previous comment.

We are currently running Exchange SP1. Also this server has GFI MailEssentials for SPAM filter on the same server.
Thanks for the information so far I guess we have some more planning before this maintenance/implementation of SP3.
Can you also provide benefits of known fixes provided by doing the upgrade to SP3 from SP1?

This needs to be planned for moving the Exchange server to a member server without breaking AD
