Exchange 2013 , forward mail for a mailbox to an external SMTP address

Please advise how with the new Exchange 2013 I can forward mail for a user mailbox to an external address?

On my old server I was able to create a 'Contact' item in Exchange 2003 and then use the Delivery Options to Forward to the contact.

With Exchange 2013 I can only see an option to forward to another mailbox within the same organisation.

I found this Help article at Microsoft
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-GB/library/dd351134(v=exchg.150).aspx

Is this the only way?  Is there an easier way?

Set-Mailbox -Identity "Pete Long" -ForwardingAddress "petel@btinternet.net" -DeliverToMailboxAndForward $true
You may need to create a 'contact', in Exchange Admin center first

Ok,  I've added the contact.  Just entering the Shell command now....
I get an error back:
Couldn't find object "name@gmail.com". Please make sure it was spelled correctly or specify a different object.

*note "name@gmail.com" is where I put the address of where I wanted the mail forwarded to.
Did you create a contact first?

New-MailContact -Name "Pete Long" -ExternalEmailAddress "name@gmail.com" -OrganizationalUnit "THE NAME Of YOUR OU"
Well yes, I created the contact through Exchange Admin Center.

The solution I found was the easiest to control and answers my question,  " Is this the only way?  Is there an easier way?"
