Problems with transferring public folders during the migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010
Hello everyone,
i am from a customer to migrate Exchange 2003 (on Win Server 2003 Server SP2 STD ED - which we call "E03") to Exchange 2010 (server on Win 2003 Server SP2 STD ED - which we call "E10"). After installing "E10" (it is a member server). I tried to move the public folders by applying the properties replica of the folders in Exchange 2003, but nothing to do no trace of the public folders in Exchange 2010. In the "State Replicas" Public Folders in Exchange System Manager to Ex2003 that all the folders are "synchronized" with replicas number of 2. If you can help I have problems even to move the mailboxes, or when I start the wizard to transfer me to see the source server "E03" and the server "E10" but you do not see the file on the destination server and so I can not proceed. I note that there have been no problems with the installation of Exchange 2010. I'm stuck!
I remain at your disposal for further clarification.
Thanks and good work.

Is E03 set as Exchange mixed or native?
ASKER
E03 is in Native Mode.
Thanks for the quick response
Thanks for the quick response
Did you already check E03's and E10's Windows Application and/or System Logs for any useful Warnings or Errors entries?
For PF migration, add the replicas and leave it for few days, it will catch up automatically. For mailbox move, you need to use Exchange 2010 EMC not 2003 EMS. From 2010 EMC, goto recipient configuration section, check mailbox type as legacy are 2003, right click and move them. Check move request section for the progress or errors and post it here.

note: if you have invalid characters in your PF objects like trailing space etc, that won't replicate to 2010, so fix those before adding replica.

It say either db is dismounted or doesn't exist. you need to check whether db exists or not, if yes then it should be mounted.

Hello everyone, after three days has not occurred yet the synchronization of public folders and I also have another problem, I created a user with permission to "Administrators", I configured Outlook 2010 connecting to Exchange 2010 and I can not create by EMS Exchange 2010 public folder contact type giving me the following error: "Unable to create the folder. sufficient permission to perform the operation on the object. Consult the Administrator to the system." I'm stuck!
ASKER
Sorry: Errata corrige "insufficient permissions" not "sufficient permission"
First off, is your first issue resolved? Were you able to get the Public Folders migrated?
Once this is answered we can move on as the problems may be related.

I solved the problem of the migration of mailboxes giving everyone all the permissions in the root and using the procedure of mailbox migration from Exchange 2010 EMS console. Instead I have not yet solved the transfer of public folders because I think the procedure is performed from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 and the latter has security locks (I applied the replication procedure indicated in several articles). If someone would come to idea if no, I will be forced to rebuild public folders by hand.
you can archive and move them as detailed in my comment.
If you have MS support. Open a case with MS.

Today I finished the migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 ending with the transfer of public folders by hand using the pst file. Now I get the following message when opening Outlook 2010:

Title: Safety Notice
Message: <server name> The information exchanged can not be viewed nor modified by other users. However, the security certificate of the site has a problem.
X The security certificate was issued by a company you have chosen not to trust. View the certificate to determine whether you want to trust the certifying authority.
V The date of the security certificate is invalid.
V The name of the security certificate is invalid.
Do you want to proceed?

The certificates seem correct in the EMS console

Good deal, glad to hear your Public Folders are migratedb
I suggest marking the correct answer as your Accepted Solution and then open a new Question to address the new problems you are having. This way the most appropriate Experts can assist based on the new problem's category.
You can say yes to that prompt. It is only letting you know that the site does not have a certificate. It is your Server so you know it is safe.

you may want to post this new issue in another question because you state you have a Cert but it is not being recognized or utilized. Although your site is safe you still should resolve the certificate issues.
