Forward mail to an external email address
Hello, Running Exchange server via Windows Server 2008, I followed the directions to forward mail to an external email address from the link:
Trying it in SMTP the mail bounces back with "Name or service not known> #SMTP#". When I set it up using IMAP, I get the bounce back "NoConnectorForAddressType ; unable to route for address type"

What version of Exchange are you running?

Sorry, Exchange 2010
Are you trying to forward mail of just 1 user or what? if you explain your goal instead of where you fail you can get a better response.
Generally to forward mail you can just create an external contact and use that as the mail forward address.. simple.

I have a user on staff that needs their staff email forwarded to their outside mail account. Yes, I created a mail contact and set up the user account to forward to that outside address. That is the problem, when I send mail to the internal user account, the external mail bounces back. The user receives the test emails only in their staff account. Thanks..

Scott- I configured the mail forward options as suggested and so far it hasn't bounced back!! As it may be a bit late for her to check mail, I may not get a response from her until tomorrow. I will let you know. Thanks
great to hear :)

Thanks again!!! It worked. The fact that I didn't have the "mail forward (AUTO) option" set was the issue. Once I checked the box, it worked!
Awesome good to hear :-)
