setting a receive connector for exchange 2010

We currently have a windows 2003 server which is receing mail. We have added a windows 2012 server running exchange 2010 and we have migrated the mailboxes to the new server. As a pre cursor to removing the 2003 server, we need to make sure the 2010 server can handle incoming mail directly.

We currently have port forwarding set to direct mail to the local IP address of our old 2003 server, and presumed it was just a simple task of changing this to reflect the new local ip address of our 2012 / exchange server. However, when we do this, mail does not arrive.

I thought we might need to configure a receive connector for exchange 2010, but I see there are 2 receive connecters already there, however, they are restricted to exchange users only. Again, I presume that these are for the routing currently taking place from the 2003 exchange server?

When I try to add a new connector, we are told that there is an IP conflict with the connectors already there.

I dont want to break the current setup till we have proved mail can be received by the new 2010 server.

Can anyone advise on what we need to do, to allow us to receive mail to the 2010 server?

Any advice appreciated.

Many thanks.

Should we just add "anonymous users" to the Default Receive connector which is set for port 25? (The client receive connector is set for port 587 -  not sure what that is? server to server??)

I get the feeling the current receive connectors are for internal routing, and were created automatically when we installed the 2010 server. By adding anonymous users, I was hoping it would let external email in to the server?

Any advice much appreciated.

Many thanks.
