The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

BES: Unable to Sync Calendar from BB to BES
Tags: Blackberry, Enterprise Server
Need help with BES!

I have configured as per their instructions on a WIndows XP system. Works great on everything except the Calendar sync from the BB handheld to the BES, the reverse is ok!

This is driving me insane and I cannot figure out why that is the case.

I originally posted my help at Crackberry without much help!
http://forums.crackberry.com/f5/wireless-calendar-sync-help-1840/

Here is an over view from that thread:
BES v4.1.4.15
Exchange 2003 SP2
8100 Pearl (and other phones all same problem)
Wireless Sync ON

The Problem is:
Email Sync 2-way is ok
Calendar: BB -> Outlook 2003 ==> FAILS
Calendar: Outlook 2003 -> BB ==> No Problems

Doc ID : KB13407

This outlined the issue with CDO.dll NOT being registered. Well, this CDO is registered on both the BES and the Exchange server. Downloaded the CDO from a DLL repository and still does not make any difference.

I get the following error from the BES Log File:

[30000] (12/06 21:23:16.561):{0x118} [Alarm::ActivateAlarm] Queuing alarm: <N/A> | BlackBerry Messaging Agent BESSERVER Agent 1 (Application Event Log on BESSERVER) | 12/06/2007 21:23:16 (AFFF4EF8) -> {john@mycompany.com} Synchronize() failed: ERR_FAIL, Tag=30131

Is the version of CDO.dll on the bes the same as on the exchange?
If not you can have problems syncing.
Make always sure that the patching of BES and exchange is the same.

Can you verify this:
On the BB open the "Calendar" then goto "Options"
"Wireless Synchronization" should be "Yes", if not change the option to "Yes".
If the option is "Yes" then change the option to "No", wait 1 minute and change the option back to "Yes".
This will trigger the resynchronization of the "Calendar"

Hi Kurt,

The file is the same on both the BES and the Exchange found:
C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\CDO.dll   --- v5.5.2176.0

In terms of the BB, I do not have a BB at the moment, although will try tomorrow afternoon. I copied the same CDO file and restarted both the Excahgne store and the BES system itself to make sure, still no go.

What did you mean by "patching of BES and exchange is the same"?

Microsoft patching.
When I do microsoft updates on the exchange servers, I apply the same patches on the BES.

03.27.2008 at 05:48AM PDT, ID: 21220687
Yes, I usually do the patching at the same time, and generally both with the same patches - of course this will differ as the exchange is on server 03 and BES on XP. I know it is possible as many other people have done it before.

I refollowed all the steps as per the instructions - it "seems" correct, so I am still stumped. I am sure that it was something simple that I missed because of my over eagerness to install and configure, and now paying for it.

Can you wipe 1 of the devices and then reactivate it again?

03.27.2008 at 06:47AM PDT, ID: 21221246
Did better, I got a "new" device that has never been activated on our server and again it was the same. There are now 7 BBs for which were 5 when I originally set up the BES. Since adding the 2 new devices, both were still unable to sync correctly.

When you retried to activate the user on the BB, did you delete and recreate the user on the BES?

04.07.2008 at 05:52AM PDT, ID: 21296334
Hi Kurt, Sorry for the delay.

I have done the wireless check and done the disable/enable option - No go, although I did not do it for a minute, so I will try that next time Im at the office, should be in the next couple days.

I had to create a new user that joined the company using an existing BB - I had to wipe that unit and start from fresh and reactive that BB - still no go

For that specific user can you find something in the event logs?

04.14.2008 at 04:51PM PDT, ID: 21354969
Hi Kurt,

Here are all the Event Logs relating to the BB.

Get a hell of alot of the 20000 and 20460 errors. I know it has something to do with the DLL and communication with the Exchange server as I gathered from the logs that the BB units are trying.

As mentioned above, I have tried the different versions of dll, although all without any success - or should I just try them again to be sure?

The error 20460 means that you've lost the connection with the RIM's SRP.  This can be due to network traffic.

Is the exchange mailbox not corrupt, maybe there is something corrupt that blocks the wireless sync of the calender
Assisted Solution

04.22.2008 at 09:25PM PDT, ID: 21417777
I do not believe that the exchange database could be corrupt, although I will perform a check after hours to ensure that is the case - possibly do a defrag in the process.

What other "something" could it be though as I am no expert with BES/BBs. I know there is no problem on the exchange side as all calendar functionalities work with Outlook/Webmail etc etc, and the fact that the calendars can be updated from Outlook to the BB, just not the reverse.

Could it be still something about the CDO.dll files as you say that the connections are not being made?

05.07.2008 at 06:12AM PDT, ID: 21515994
Hi Kurt,

I did a defrag and integrity check of the edb file and no faults were found and the problem still exsits.

I believe it is related to what you initially said with error 20460 :
The description for Event ID ( 20000 ) in Source ( BlackBerry Controller ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: [CFG] Controller won't generate userdump files. Userdump.exe not found..

As the above message had issues relating to not having the registry info or DLL.

So how the hell do I find out what it does/does not have?

I'm out of options, I thinks it's time to call RIM for support.
