Also try using the IP of the server if nothing else works.
You need to check network connectivity and DNS also.
I hope this helps !

I click on the lotus notes icon, I am prompted with the welcome screen prompting me to click "yes:.
At the User information screen I enter the user info and server name and click Next ,
Imediately I am given the error "server "servername" is not responding.
I have done the following:
removed lotus notes , reinstalled notes,
verify the server is up and running just fine.
Tried setting a differnet user with a different server and still get the same problem.
I am able to ping the server by name and IP address
rebooted , logged in as admin. No change !
I can add the user's mail icon on a different set.
Please help !!!

Sounds like a machine configuration to me.
Make sure no firewall is blocking the connection on port 1352. Make sure you can ping the server by hostname and not FQDN. I'm sure you've done this as well but make sure the server name is spelled corretly and that the slashes are in the proper direction (i.e. servername/ou2/ou1/o)
