Asked by: Atulinfotech

How to reset the "Notes ID" password (Required for Lotus Notes client software) in Lotus Domino and Notes 8 ? This is required when a user forgets his "Notes ID" password. We would like to reset the "Notes ID" password of a user from "Lotus Domino Admin" console.

You cannot do this. INstead, you should retain a notes id (when you create) and then if the user forgets the pwd, then pass this notes user id to use from there notes clients.

You cannot do that if you are the administrator and have forgotten to ebale password recovary.
But when your administrators have enabled password recovary then here is some nice stry how it works:

As explained, you either have to have password/ ID recovery enabled at the time the ID is created or used, or you need a copy of the ID and password that are known to be working together- usually when you create an ID ( even if expired it can be recertified )

perhaps you still have this in an old email ?

I hope this helps !

AFAIK Password resetting is promised in future releases of Domino.
Now you have only possibilities to find some old copy of user's id as SysExpert suggested, or to create a new user with the same name. Then, name- based access in ACL-s and groups remains, user loses only access to data, encrypted with old ID keys.

I like to know if password resetting already included in  Version 8?

It is already included in R 6.5 and above but you need to enable it so that it can start collecting the ID's and info for recovery.

It will NOT work on accounts that are already expired.

I hope this helps !

Same problem as here: you cannot simply reopen this question; you have to open a new one.
