ALso it depends on the R8 client you use, the basic client may be sufficient and a little more mature.

Lotus Domino 6.5 VS R8
I want to consolidate all my 15 domino servers to 2 or 3 servers in one location. I've been told that Domino R8 is not as good as 6.5 and 7 because of the GUI Interface. I need some advice on should I upgrade to version 7 or R8 then upgrade or should I migrate while on version 6.5, also can I use the 6.5 or 7 client with R8?

Last question first, yes you can use the 6.5 and 7 clients with an 8 server.
Personally I think 8 is still a bit "young", there are plenty of performance and sizing stats around for Nd7 so I would prefer a consolidation onto Nd7 at the moment. If 8 was a bit more mature then I might change my view. I must stress that's only because of personal experience doing a consolidation to ND7, I've not done one to 8 yet.
If someone has done a server consolidation to ND8 then they might have a different view.
I'd only upgrade the clients if there was a clear business case for doing so.
