Question

Date Format in Regional Settings

Asked by: gingerdeb

We have a problem where dates are sometimes appearing in an American format, instead of Australian.  In my organsation the standard regional setting for date format is "d/mm/yyyy".  I seem to recall that for Notes to display dates correctly, the short date setting should be "dd/mm/yyyy", however I can't find this documented anywhere.  Can anyone advise if this is correct?

 Hi there gingerdeb,,,

First of all ,, are you talking about the date on a Lotus Notes Domino server or a Lotus notes client on a workstation ?????
Anyway, if it is a Lotus Notes Domino server or Lotus Notes Client in both cases you have first to check the date format of the server's or the workstation's in the Control Panel and if it is a server connected to a DC ( Domain Controler ) please check how the format is on the DC it self and whiter the LND is getting updated in time and date from the DC it self .
Moreover, in any case check the " user perfernces"  ( Regional Settings for LN8 and higher or " International for lower versions ).

Also Please check the following links for more help :

To display dates always int he same format you should ensure that the form design uses a custom date format rather than using the system default. This way it will always show correctly even if somone has changed their system international settings.

Using custom date format you can have it howevere you like including d/mm/yyyy

If on a web page then the server system default must be set correctly. Or you customise the output to fit what you require.

Thank you for your comments.  My issue is that standard SOE is d/mm/yyyy.  For some users this causes the date format to be displayed incorrectly in American format (in the same fields that are displaying correctly for others), but the issue is fixed if the regional settings on their laptops are changed to dd/mm/yyyy.  In order to justify changing the SOE to dd/mm/yyyy, I need to know if there is a valid reason for changing it, or any documentation regarding this particular behaviour.

 Hi there ginherdeb,,,

First of all,, I dont have a good background about "SOE "

Second of all,, >>>but the issue is fixed if the regional settings on their laptops are changed to dd/mm/yyyy<<< Does it get fixed for good so the date will not take place any more ???? if so you can consider this a workaround for  the problem.

Moreover,, Is there any way that you can have a testing Environment similar to the real life one and make some testing for it ??? then check if this problem was solved for good or not ??

Best Wishes

SOE is the standard operating environment, ie standard settings that are applied to all users in the organisation such as regional settings, default applications, etc.  Yes, changing the date format in the SOE would be the simple solution, but the network people are reluctant to make this change without additional justification/proof.

Couldnt find documentation regarding the difference between dd/mm/yyyy and d/mm/yyyy, however I have found documentation regarding issues where the date format displayed is not in accordance with the regional settings, which is similar to what we're experiencing.  One way found of fixing this is to edit the notes.ini to only have top lines, eg:

[Notes]
KitType=<current value>
Directory=<current value>
InstallType=<current value>
FaultRecovery_Build=<current value>
Timezone=<current value>

<current value> being the actual value in the notes.ini, ie Timezone=-10.
