You sometimes get this message when the local replica has local encryption turned on. Using the ID of the user look at the database properties and see if it is encrypted. If so, either -
1. Turn encryption off and then you can create a replica on the server or
2. Temporarily permit the user to create databases on the servrer and then create the replica.

Sign on to the Notes workstation as the user who created the local replica. In advanced tab of ACL, turn off Enforce Consistent ACL.  Then create a new copy (File > Application > New copy).  In the New Copy dialog, click the Encryption button and specify Do Note Encrypt.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I have decided to restore from backup but the info you provided was useful.I will split the points.

There is some more info I would like to have.

1)   Is the  replica of the mail database created from the local copy ( withour encryption) usable on the server as it is . I mean do I need to change anything on that nsf file. What about encryption security etc.

2) I need to know how a database would suddenly dissappear from the domino server. There is nothing regarding this on the logs. If it was a first level delete, windows would say that the database was in use . So what could have hapenned

A replica without local encryption is usable on the server.  But you are restoring from backups so you won't use the local replica, right?

The database could have been deleted at the OS level.  If Dominowas running any task against the databse, then the OS usually would give a file in use error.  Anyone with Manager rights to the database could delete via Notes but that usually shows up in log.nsf.
