Expanding Folder view not working

Whenevr one of my users tries to expand his "Folders" the whole left hand pane goes blank.
Tried doing a fixup, updall, copy style compact, move him from r6 to r8.5 and ahcnged the template but it is still happening.
Also tried to rebuild views using shift+f9
any thoughts?
