I am using at one of my customers's site MDaemon mail server.
But they are getting their emails via pop so the server does not contain the emails...and if a user's pc crashes
I have trouble restoring the pst file...
they have a domain pop ( @company1.com) and In MDaemon Mail server I have set up users internally
to distribute the emails...
I would like to have the feature of exchange meaning that I want to keep the emails on the server
so in case a user's pc crashes ... I just re-install outlook and put the username and password and I get back
all the emails !!

One more thing..
when I have these settings as IMAP, I could then allow my users to have 2 outlook ?
meaning one at work and one at home ? (for high end users of course )
they will always be in sync right ?
if that's true , how do I set the second profile (at home ) when not on a LAN.
MDaemon has the worldclient web email... but I would rather use outlook if possible.
thanks

Outlook connector is only necessary if you are using Calendaring and tasks.

Yes, you are correct. All you need to do to allow either IMAP or Worldclient access from outside your LAN is:-
(1) port forward ports 143 and 3000 (respectively) on your router to your Mdaemon mail server (see www.portforward.com if you are unsure how to do this - find your router, then follow the instructions for SMTP twice, once for IMAP, then again for Worldclient, substituting 143 or 3000 for 25 where applicable).
(2) Open up the software firewall on your mdaemon server to allow incoming connections on ports 143 and 3000, in the absence of a third-party firewall this will be the Windows Firewall.
(3) Make a note of the Public IP address of your system - you need a Fixed IP address on your system to be supplied by your service provider - now enter this into the two relevant places in Outlook (a) IMAP server address (b) SMTP server. If you do not have a fixed IP it is possible to do it with dynamic, but I would not recommend it - it is a false economy to do so.
(4) Setup SMTP to authenticate with your Mdaemon server using the same credentials as for the incoming (IMAP) account.

The easiest way to setup IMAP from the contents of PST's in my view is to go into Outllook, setup a new account with IMAP as the mailbox type, then you've got two sets of folders in your folder list - onle lot belonging to the PST file(s), the other is IMAP. Simply Copy & Paste from the POP folders to the IMAP folders - creating whatever IMAP foilders you need along the way. When Outlook receives the emails into the IMAP structure it will dutifully send it off to Mdaemon for storage.
