The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Mail server not accessible from local and remote without settings changes

Asked by rexwithers in Email Servers

Tags: , ,

I’m trying to setup a mail server locally on my network for a number of reasons but I still have my domain, MX etc hosted at the ISP, I have setup port forwarding so that I can connect the server from another offsite location using the public IP forwarding through to 192.168.0.3 on the local network this works fine. Also if I change the outgoing mail server etc to 192.168.0.3 when on the local network that works fine as well.

What I would like to do is leave the client notebook setup and not have to change it every time I come home and go out.

I assume this is what DNS is for so that the local DNS server resolves the domain name to be a *local IP* when connected to the local network and using the MX records to get the public IP when I’m not local but as I’m not using the domain name.

I assume this can be done (?) and I also assume that it’s more of a routing or DNS question than a mail issue but as you can see I’m  not to skilled up on all of this yet (Thanks in advance) PS I have windows server 2003 and a basic ADSL Ethernet router
