I have a vendor application running on a separate server that is designed to update users calendar entries within Exchange via WEBDAV.
I have created an user email account the application uses that has been authorized to update the calendar of a particular user. Updating works fine when logged into Outlook with this account, however when attempting to use the application and WEBDAV it's returning 401 errors.
I'm under the impression that WEBDAV is enabled within Exchange because OWA access works fine (it's my understadning that OWA requires Exchange to be running WEBDAV).
I noticed that under IIS Service Manager that WEBDAV is currently prohibited under Web Service Extensions. Does this need to be enabled??
Also, I can't find any way within Exchange itself to enable WebDAV. Is there such a place??

Do you mean the Webclient service running on the Exchange server??
This service has WEBDAV client redirector component listed as a dependency.
The Webclient service is disabled on my Exchange server.
This reads to me to be more of the client side versus the server side I would expect it to be.

The WebDAV extension in IIS is a general extension that enables WebDAV for all web directories on the server. It has nothing to do with Exchange, and is normally set to Prohibited. WebDAV as it applies to Exchange is handled by the Microsoft Exchange Server extension, which is normally set to Allow. The 401 probably indicates that the application is not successfully authenticating to the Exchange Virtual Directory, but there are several other kinds of 401 response. The IIS Log File will tell you which one you are getting.
Thanks, I'll gladly accept that as the answer if you could just tell me what facility I use on the Exchange server to check and set the state of WEBDAV.
As it turns out, the vendor application was passing bad credentials, whcih was causing the 401's. After correcting this, the application worked successfully, so I know that WEBDAV is currently allowed.
Searching for some time to try and discover how to check and set this parameter, I've just got to know how it's controlled.

If you set the Microsoft Exchange Server IIS Extension to Prohibit, then this will probably turn off WebDAV (and maybe a few other things, too), but I can't think of an easy way to visually check if it's working successfully. Besides discovering one day that your application is no longer working as it should.

WebDav is a service listed under "WebClient".
