Hello Fbraur,

What problem are you having?  Cannot send?  Cannot receive? Cannot open Tbird?

1. An addin could be interfering. Disable Thunderbird Addons.  Go to Tools > Addons and disable the addons.

If you cannot open Thunderbird, go to Start > Programs > Mozilla Thunderbird > Mozilla Thunderbird (No Addons).

2. Check if an external program running in the background is interfering with Outlook. Check Firewall, antivirus and other security programs, Google and Yahoo toolbars, and desktop search programs.  Disable these programs one at a time.

3. If no joy, create a new Thunderbird profile.

4. Run Thunderbird Standard Diagnostics

Hope this helps!

No, there is no problem with Thunderbird... it has to do with RoadRunner being a web-based email and not allowing email browsers easy access to RoadRunner's email.  There's some information here and there, but I was hoping that someone at Experts would have a "straightforward" answer to a "work around" because Thunderbird is such a common email client...

Fbraur,

Road Runner servers are
Incoming (POP3) Mail Server: pop-server.sc.rr.com, port 110, no SSL enabled

Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server: smtp-server.sc.rr.com, port 25, no SSL enabled

by: FbraurPosted on 2009-01-03 at 18:35:51ID: 23288049

Thanks, but I have the correct POP and SMTP codes entered.  Everytime I send an emal out to a @hawaii.rr.com address it gets rejected.  This is a well know issue between Thunderbird and RoadRunner.  Mozilla says to get an "add-on" for Thunderbird that "fools" RoadRunner and allows access to the email addresses, etc.  Thought you might know of such an add-on or "other" solution...

Fbraur,

I am not familiar with such an addon.  Where did you get this info from?  Mozilla webpage?  If so, do you have a URL reference?

See if this will help

Road Runner provides mail servers based on their customer's location. If you try to log in to the wrong server it will reject your password as if you had entered it incorrectly. Road Runner's email help page includes an "E-mail Quick Reference" box which shows users the correct servers based on that user's provider and location.

thanks...  I pretty much "know" all this and I'm using the right pop and smtp settings...  The comment re the Thunderbird addon was seen during my Google searches re the issue and I couldn't find an addon... I'm moving on with this... don't spend any more time on it...

fbraur,

Quick fixes mean giving the helper all the information they require to give you a quick fix.

I use Roadrunner and Thunderbird with absolutely no issues whatsoever, because I use the correct settings that War1 gave you.

What you failed to make clear is that you are trying to have Thunderbird use the webmail.rr.com page to make connections.  Which is like forcing TB to use Yahoo's email connections without paying for it.  You do not need an add-on to make Thunderbird work with Roadrunner.

I'm objecting to your Acceptance of your own answer due to principal and the fact that you haven't answered war1's questions.  I am positive that war1 and I both know what add-on you are looking for, but because you can't answer a simple question, I'm not up to wasting my time with it.

Hi ALL...

At this point I don't even know what I did "wrong."  Do whatever you guys need to do to be happy...  I don't have any preferences whatsoever...  I appreciated the help and it helped me to try other solutions.  I'm very surprised at mtz1of4's response because he was so demeaning and if he had the perfect solution for making Roadrunner and Thunderbird work together why didn't he just tell me what the answer was...???  I also am using the correct settings for my pop and smtp and I sure wasn't aware that I was trying to have "Thunderbird use the webmail.rr.com page to make connections."  All I was "trying to do" was send email from Thunderbird to a rr.com email address...

Fbraur,

What is the Exact error message you get when you send an email to hawaii.rr.com?  And what exactly is the problem with using port 587 if it allows you to send your emails?  Where (web address, where people are complaining or talking about it.) is it "well-known" issue between RR and TB?  Where did Mozilla tell you to get an add-on?

It sounds  more like an issue between YOUR ISP and RR.  who is your ISP?

You stated "it has to do with RoadRunner being a web-based email and not allowing email browsers easy access to RoadRunner's email."
but "email browsers" is not entirely accurate. TB is an email Client and Firefox is a web Browser.

I apologize for sounding demeaning, but it gets very frustrating when people request Fast fixes from volunteers and then accept their own "I give up" as a solution for a question they haven't fully explained, and they do it in less then one day of asking the question.

OK, I accept your apology, not that you owed me one, because I really am inexperienced using Expert Exchange. Here's a short history that started all this:
1. I signed up for Roadrunner, setup up an account in Thunderbird, and attempted to send/receive.  The error message I got was that the xxx@hawaii.rr.com wasn't a recognized address.  When I tried to send from Thunderbird to a rr.com address, I could not.
2.  I then confirmed on the web that all my Roadrunner information was correct and that I could send/receive using Roadrunner on the web.  Everything worked on the web.  Went back to Thunderbird, and I could not sent to a rr.com address.
3.  Did the Google search thing and found a host of listings regarding issues between Thunderbird and Roadrunner from people all over the place.  So, I investigated a few and decided to try Expert Exchange.  Because the Google search revealed a "universal" problem, I was just hoping that someone at Expert Exchange already had some experience with the problem and that would be my "quick fix."
4. As is so common with these things, there was "no easy" and I just kept "dinking around with stuff" until I got an answer.  Well, I switched my smtp server in Thunderbird to another smtp server and everything has been working fine.  Send/receive back and forth to rr.com addresses and vice versa...
5.  So, all I was trying to do with my "close out" with Expert Exchange was to close it out as simply as possible...  I don't really understand all the points issues, etc. or who gets credit for what, or how important those things are to the experts...  I certainly apologize for causing any undo problems with all of that.

Please, close this question out that is in the BEST INTEREST of ALL involved.  It would be much appreciated by me.

Aloha,
Frank Rice
