exchange 2007 serach

When i run a search (by typing in the field on the top right corner) in my outlook,  it takes a while to come back with results,  and worst of all it starts seraching at 7/15/09  backwards....THEN goes back to my current mail.

thus i have to wait for all the results to be searched, then it searches my messages post 7/15/09.

i found this tech net article but im having trouble interpeting it::

(im using "To Manually Rebuild the Full-Text Index Catalog" method)

does this mean i should stop the search index service, delete this folder, then restart the service?

then restart the exchange search service to rebuild the search index.

can someone please this before i potentially mess up this exchange server.
