How do I use externally hosted exchange and Qmail on same server

I am using a dedicated CentOS server with Plesk 8.4.  For a particular domain, I am pointing my MX record to my externally hosted exchange server and it is working properly only when I disable mail (QMail) on the local server for this domain.

I need to have access to create local mail accounts as well and am wondering how I can first check if an email exists locally.  If it does not exist, then send it on the the exchange server.  Does this make sense or do you need more information?
