How do I get the Preview Pane back on My iMac Mail?

I have a brand new iMac. Had it for 2 weeks. I just noticed that the Preview Pane doesn't show up anymore in mail.  it used to but not anymore. How do I get the preview pane back. I tried clicking on everything and nothing works.

At the bottom of the window is a slightly thicker grey bar with a small dot in the middle of it. Double click the dot, or click-drag the grey bar up.

you can put that script into applescript by going to applications --> apple script --> script editor

copy and paste the above script into there and compile and run it. Then launch mail and you should find that the above script toggles whether it is visible or not ( hopefully )
