The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Big sendmail problems

Asked by ebrosius in SendMail Email Server

Tags: , ,

I'm running RedHat 6.1, and sendmail build 8.9.3.  We started having problems a few weeks ago when our server would get 'out of memory' errors and all processes would shutdown.

We noticed there were a large amount of information in the /var/spool/mqueue directory.  And unpon futher review we noticed that when we did a ps-axw we had a large amount of 'sendmail' processes running.  On most the these proceeses they seemed to hang (i.e. be there a hell of a lot longer that I would expect and eat up memory which caused all the processes to shutdown).  And at the end of some of the processes there is a message.  There seemes to be 2 processes for each email (possibly).  He is an example:

26558 ?        S      0:00 sendmail: server mailer4.flowgo.com [216.240.130.73] child wait
26567 ?        S      0:00 sendmail: server mailer4.flowgo.com [216.240.130.73] cmd read

I'm tried to do some research on the 'child wait' and 'cmd read' messages and haven't gotten very much info.  Any ideas??

We are also getting these kinds of messages:

26640 ?        S      0:00 sendmail: server jiscmail.ac.uk [130.246.192.50] (may be forged) child wait
26656 ?        S      0:00 sendmail: server jiscmail.ac.uk [130.246.192.50] (may be forged) cmd read

Again, I haven't found much info on the 'may be forged' message.

I'm in a bit of a jam and am help would be wonderful!!  Thanks a head of time!!Start Free Trial
