Well, I have to agree that it is a bit silly... but I'll try to help. I searched online for some resources on this. There are endless sites/docs that explain migrating FROM exchange TO sendmail... but I only found *1* article in my search that helped to migrate FROM sendmail TO exchange.

My suggestion would be to use sendmail or postfix or similar as the bastion "outside" email exchanger/gateway... and use Exchange as your internal email server. This would provide all the nifty exchange features for company users, while leaving a far more secure and stable server (sendmail/postfix/etc) exposed on the internet to exchange mail to & from other outside domains.

tell your boss exchange sucks and to embrace a open source solution. Dump the solaris and set up a nice RedHat linux machine.
