Question

problems with sending attachments using mutt

Asked by: vinnyd79

I have been using mutt to send attachments on SCO 5.05.The attachments are text files and now all of a sudden the attachments no longer come over as an attachment. They are coming over in the body of the message. Here is an example of an attachment called vinny.txt that was received in the body of a message:

--opJtzjQTFsWo+cga
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

tester mail

--opJtzjQTFsWo+cga
Content-Type: text/plain
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="vinny.txt"

This is a test

--opJtzjQTFsWo+cga--

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Thanks.

What was the commandline syntax you used for sending the attachement?

try to use:
   mutt email@ddress -a filename.to.attache -s "Subject of email" < file.containing.message.body

also have a look at:

That is the command line syntax I am using. It has always worked before, but stopped working a few weeks ago. I think the problem may have started after the system had a kernal panic.I was going to try and remove mutt and re-install it but I don't see it listed under "custom". I think it was installed as part of the skunkware98 cd.Do you think I can just install a newer version of mutt ontop of the old one?

Can "swconfig" see the package, if custom/scoadmin cann't see
the package, then the package might be install from a tar ball
with a FLAT dir structure, it is safe to reinstall on top of the old
one.

"I think the problem may have started after the system had a kernal panic"

please check /var/adm/messages file to see what's the cause of
the panic (likely hardware). did you perform fsck (single user
mode) after the panic? I think you also need to check you file
systems out.

I didn't see any causes in the message log. The file systems were all checked after it happened. I installed a newer version of mutt and all is working again.Thanks.
