Masquerading email header info.

This one is scrambling my brain.

My organization uses an outsource Exchange service for our corporate email. I also have several servers on my LAN that need to send email to folks outside our organization. The problem is that when I generate email on a Linux/Sendmail system, it appears the destination mail server rejects the email since my server can't be resolved via DNS, because they are not in an "official" domain and are not registered.

The 2 solutions I can think of are:

  - configure the LAN email server(s) to masquerade header info such that it uses an hostname that resolves  -- or --
  - configure tha LAN email server(s) to use the outsourced email exchange server to send the emails from.

I think the first solution would be cleaner. I have several email server options; Sendmail, Postfix, or the SMTP server that comes with Windows Server 2003. I'd prefer to use one of the Linux email servers.

Any detailed info on configuring an email server to completely masquerade (or another cleaner solution) would be greatly appreciated.
