Sendmail pop error

Hi guys,

I have got following error messages in Solaris 5.8 server running sendmail.

SYSERR(root): collect: read timeout on connection..........

These errors start to pop up when users try to POP their emails. Most of the time sendmail works alright but sometimes they get this error message specially when they are connected via VPN. I have tried increasing timeout value in sendmail as well but to no avail.

Secondly if the network session gets disconnected for some reason while downloading emails, all already-downloaded emails start downloading again. Is there anyway we can avoid this to happen? Users have MS Outlook 2003 and Server is running sendmail.
