I havev a file server with 300 gigs of data for about 3,000 users. We seperate all the Folders by departments or Units.
I used XCopy to copy everything to another server with more space. I did not copy ACL information because we need to redo all the permissions anyways. It's just a mess. I need to come up with a SOP Form or something for settings permissions based on Microsoft's Best Practices
If anybody can throw me a link for this that would helpl a lot.
I know the MCSE basics like "give as little permissions as possible that still allows them to do there job" and Share permissions are the most restructive of both your share and NTFS permissions AND NTFS Permissions are cumulative, however, that is not really helping when designing a permission structure.
One question I would like to know is if it's ok to share the root drive or "Admin Share" or if I should just share it's subfolders? Also, who besides "Admins, system, users and Creator Owner should be ini the default Root Share exc exc. If I can get the facts then I can write an SOP form for other admins to adhere to.
