I need to demote a Windows 2003 server and make a Windows 2000 server the primary. I've switched FSMO's, setup the DNS, and made the 2k box a GC server, but when I run DCPromo on the 2k3 box, I get an Application Directory Partion for the DNS, saying it's the only copy in the AD and will remove it if I continue. This sounds like a instant bad karma to me. If I remove this, does it break my AD and render the DNS on the Windows 2000 box kaputs? If so, how do I proceed?
Note: The domain was originally configured on the 2003 server, not the windows 2000 server.
