2. It's limited by Connection speed between DCs. Basically it's got to be able to replicate the data, and if the link isn't fast enough then you don't get so far.
MS even have a nice little table of that here:
http://technet2.microsoft.
We can scale up to hundreds of thousands with sufficient connectivity, although it would be extremely rare to encounter an organisation which includes that many.
You can adjust these limits by breaking into separate domains, that allows us to ensure that higher speed links are used between Global Catalogs for the replication of the PAS.
4. Toni is absolutely right about 4, 2000 cannot host replicas of the ForestDNSZones or DomainDNSZones application partitions. That means that a 2000 DNS Server on a 2003 Domain using those partitions for DNS Data cannot be a DNS Server (there are no functional level requirements for using the application partition).

Hi!
1. I'm not aware that there is limitation.
2. Which "directory partition"? Space disk is limit, AD will allow creation of new objects if it has a place to store them, at least in theory.
3. None, FSMO roles are not replicated.
4. Windows 2000 does not support application partitions, so I guess the answer would be no. I have never actually tried to replicate application partition to Windows 2000 DC.
