The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Internet Explorer Maintenance in Group Policy caused runtime errors on Windows 2000 computers running IE 6

Hello Experts

In an effort to clean up users' internet settings, I enabled a group policy user setting that managed internet explorer in 'preference' mode to delete temporary internet files when the browser was closed.  Soon after I enabled this policy, IE 6 users only began to experience runtime errors.  I disabled and later deleted the policy, but the errors persist.  I don't see any specific errors in the local (app, sec, sys) logs on the problem computers, so I'm not sure exactly what became adversely affected.  The only fix I've found was to delete the local profiles on the problem computer and reset the user's roaming profile path in active directory.  For example,\\servershare\profles\ johnsmith is now \\servershare\profiles\ johnsmith2.

While this addresses the issue, it will be extremely tedious to reset every Windows 2000 user's profile, they are too highly customized.  Is there any way to tell exactly what was affected?  I've also tried clearing out local temporary and temporarily internet files manually without success.

I haven't seen the errors myself but here is a sample as relayed to me by a user..

Just tried to open the an attachement from webmail--
runtime error
debug
line 90
error :unspecified

While working in while editing a webpage:
 runtime error
line :2527
this content window.document is null or not an object

line:3741
access is denied

I'm stumped on this one, I'm not sure where else to look.  Any thoughts? Start Free Trial
