Why is ADMT 3.0 not migrating Exchange attributes?

Tags: Microsoft, Active Directory Migration Toolkit (ADMT), 3.0, Interforest 2003-to-2003 domain migration not copying Exchange attributes
I carried out an initial migration of gobal groups and users from one Windows 2003 (native) forest to another Windows 2003 (native) forest using ADMT 3.0. For each mail-enabled object, the ADMT logs show the following errors:

2008-04-24 10:55:37 WRN1:7857 Could not copy following properties for 'CN=xxx.
2008-04-24 10:55:37  homeMTA = CN=Microsoft MTA,CN=OldMailServer,CN=Servers,CN=First Administrative Group,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=GCAL,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=name  A constraint violation occurred.
2008-04-24 10:55:37  homeMDB = CN=Mailbox Store (OldMailServer),CN=First Storage Group,CN=InformationStore,CN=OldMailServer,CN=Servers,CN=First Administrative Group,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=GCAL,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=name  A constraint violation occurred.
2008-04-24 10:55:37  showInAddressBook = CN=Default Global Address List,CN=All Global Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=GCAL,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=name, ...  A constraint violation occurred.

Where set, other Exchange attributes like altRecipientBL or publicDelegatesBL also fail to migrate with the same error. Other Exchange attributes migrate across just fine. What differentiates the attributes that cannot be migrated is that they are all distinguished name syntax fields pointing to objects in the old domain.

Exchange 2007 exists within the target domain - so the target forest has had the Exchange 2007 schema update applied. The old domain was running Exchange 2003 only; however the attributes that are failing to exist within the target forest's schema (and even if they didn't, ADMT should create them).

To cover off some of the basic questions that may get asked:
- There is a two-way transitive trust established between the two forests that validates and name suffix routing is correctly configured.
- Inter-forest SID filtering is disabled.
- Both forests and both domains are at the Windows 2003 functional level. However, the source DCs are not running R2.
- The migration was done with domain admin accounts in both domains.

The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!
