Windows Home Server. Unable to access shares.

OK, here's a bit of a strange one.

I have had Windows Home Server running successfully on the network for a few months now with no real problems. I have connected to it with a Vista PC and three XP SP2 PC's using the connector software. Backups and duplication have been working well.

Recently I swapped the hard drive in the Vista machine to run up a new copy of the OS (as the current one was getting a bit bogged down). No problems so far. I then installed the connector software on the new OS install and it found and connected to WHS. Great, I thought, that was easy. It all seemed to be OK except when I tried to copy something from the WHS share to the local drive. I keep getting the following message:

"\\server\abc.jpg\ is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resouce. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The directory name is invalid."

Funny thing is that I can see the actual jpeg I'm trying to copy on the server. I can browse to it and if I change the icon to a thumbnail, I can see the image. I can even open it full screen in Windows Picture Gallery on the Vista PC. But when I try to copy/move it to the desktop (or anywhere local), I get the above message. Very frustrating.

I then put the original drive back in the Vista machine thinking that something had gone wrong with the Vista install that I had just done so would have to do it again. A pain but it happens. No good. I am still getting this same message even though the drive is exactly as it was 3 hours earlier (when it was working with WHS perfectly).

I also do not have this problem with the three XP machines on the network. They can all connect and move/copy from WHS just as before.

Perhaps WHS is looking to a (corrupt) MAC address that it identifies with the Vista PC, therefore not allowing access? It seems strange that when putting back the original drive, which was toatally untouched since it was taken out a couple of hours earlier, WHS will STILL not allow access.

Any ideas??
