It has just come to light that somebody on one of my networks decided to manually delete from ADSIEdit the entry for an unused (but still existent) DFS namespace which they thought no longer existed and the record was just leftover information. On making some changes to DFS, I noticed that the old namespace had a large red cross beside it, and on further inspection I realised the entry for that namespace now does not exist in the correct location on the domain.
The error message I see on the namespace in the DFS Management console is "\\domain.co.uk\Namespace"
: The namespace cannot be queried. Element not found"
Since this happened long ago, we don't have a backup that far back which we can revert to, so short of doing that, what other options do I have to remove this namespace from AD? Hiding it from the DFS display isn't enough as it will still exist cause confusion, it needs to be totally removed from the domain and the server it was running on.
