Applying computer settings... hangs for over 10 minutes

We have 20 XP (SP2) clients in an OU. When a user reboots the machine log in proceeds until the user is prompted to enter their details and log in to our domain.. at that point the log in hangs on 'Applying computer settings...' for over 10 minutes and then finally logs in. After that particular user has logged out, any other user can log in with no delay.  

Our DNS is set up correctly (i.e. DHCP gives the client machine an IP address and sets the first DNS server as the domain controller). We are using roaming profiles but none appear particularly large. Also, folder redirection is used for Home folders. No group policies are being applied to this OU that are not also applied to other OUs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated?
