The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Domain Controllers not replicating

Asked by ddman1971 in Active Directory, Windows 2003 Server, Domain Name Service (DNS)

I am receiving these error messages on several of my domain controllers:

This is the replication status for the following directory partition on the local domain controller.

Directory partition:
DC=stlouis,DC=apd,DC=local

The local domain controller has not recently received replication information from a number of domain controllers.   The count of domain controllers is shown, divided into the following intervals.

More than 24 hours:
1
More than a week:
1
More than one month:
0
More than two months:
0
More than a tombstone lifetime:
0
Tombstone lifetime (days):
60
 Domain controllers that do not replicate in a timely manner may encounter errors. It may miss password changes and be unable to authenticate. A DC that has not replicated in a tombstone lifetime may have missed the deletion of some objects, and may be automatically blocked from future replication until it is reconciled.

To identify the domain controllers by name, install the support tools included on the installation  CD and run dcdiag.exe.
You can also use the support tool repadmin.exe to display the replication latencies of the domain controllers in the forest.   The command is "repadmin /showvector /latency <partition-dn>".

Also, on the Forest domain, I'm getting:

The Knowledge Consistency Checker (KCC) was unable to form a complete spanning tree network topology. As a result, the following list of sites cannot be reached from the local site.

Sites:
CN=Gulfco,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=apd,DC=local
AND
All domain controllers in the following site that can replicate the directory partition over this transport are currently unavailable.

Site:
CN=Gulfco,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=apd,DC=local
Directory partition:
CN=Configuration,DC=apd,DC=local
Transport:
CN=IP,CN=Inter-Site Transports,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=apd,DC=local

The errors that are occurring are probably due to the forced removal of the domain controller STLDCC that was in Gulfco.  I was not able to do the proper dcpromo on it because it was already on it's last leg and wasn't communicating with the rest of the forest.

How do I get rid of all of these error messages?  None of my DC are replicating.
