The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How to I apply the Computer Configuration portion of a Group Policy to only certain computers within an OU?

Asked by ljwoods in Active Directory, Windows Networking, Windows 2003 Server

My GPOs are arranged like this (bear with me, hard to recreate hierarchy with text, * denotes level, several OUs omitted that do not include GPOs):

Domain
Domain GPO - Computer and User Configurations - Authenticated Users
|
*OU - Main
*GPO - User Configurations - User Security Group
|
**OU - Systems
**GPO - Loopback Enabled (Replace) - Computer Security Group (only 3 computers)
|
***OU - Special Systems
***GPO - User Configurations - Authenticated Users (replaces previous conflicting user configuration for only the computers referenced in the Loopback policy)

I hope thats clear enough...  I am looking to create a GPO at the "Systems" OU level (alongside the Loopback GPO that is currently there) that only applies to a certain group of computers.  The policy only includes computer configurations, not user configurations (there are no users in the "Systems" OU).  If I leave the default security filtering at "Authenticated Users," it obviously applies to everyone that logs into any of the computers within that OU.  If I take out "Authenticated Users" and replace it with "Group of Computers," it does not apply the computer configuration setting to those computers.  The configuration settings in the policy do not conflict with any other policy setting in the domain.

How do I go about accomplishing this without changing the structures of my OUs?
