The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

The contents of my SYSVOL folder are missing. How do I restore?

Asked by lyon-it in Active Directory, Windows 2003 Server

Tags: , , ,

I've gone through virtually all the posts that had anything to do with a missing SYSVOL folder. I'm not sure if my situation is slightly different. Here is a description of our environment, and what I believe caused this problem:

We have 3 Windows 2003 SP2 Domain Controllers in a single Domain. What happened is one of our DC's completely crashed and we rebuilt the same server and restored everything from backup. Everything seemed to be OK until we noticed our Application Event Log started filling up with 1030, 1058 errors. These errors are not only filling up the rebuilt DC, but all DC's and all Domain Computers in our environment.

Here is what the 1058 error says.

Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=golyon,DC=com. The file must be present at the location <\\golyon.com\sysvol\golyon.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini>. (The system cannot find the path specified. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

Here is the 1030 error

Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. Check the event log for possible messages previously logged by the policy engine that describes the reason for this.

I'm sure you guys have seen this problem before. Of course now I cannot edit my Default Domain Policy, because it's not where it's supposed to be.

These are the things I know are working:

FRS is OK
DNS is OK
Sites and Services and the Topology seem to be OK.

Everybody can authenticate, and this is having zero effect on our business. I think only Group Policy is messed up. Luckily we don't use hardly any GP.

If there is a clear cut way to fix this, please let me know. I've looked through several Microsoft KB articals, and it's not clear which one to go by. I'm ready to call Microsoft if this is really involved

I've ran dcdiag and I get NETLOGON failures, unable to connect to the NETLOGON share, of course because it doesn't exist anymoreStart Free Trial
