The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. How to completely remove a DC from Active Directory that is no longer available or on the network?

I have a Domain controller that has totally crashed and is no longer available.  The FSMO roles were already moved to a new server so I don't need to seize any roles.  The domain controller is however still part of active directory and must be completely removed.  What is the step by step process to get rid of all references in active directory to that old server. (Windows 2003 R2 SP1).  I am familiar with NTDSutil and ADSIedit.  I just need to know exactly what must be done and in what order...The NTDSutil let me get as far as metadata cleanup / then connections: / then connect to servername...Then I got a DSbindW error because the server is physically unavailable...I am ready to bring up a new DC but I need to get rid of all reference to this old one first...Please helpStart Free Trial
