Moving from 2 to 1 AD domain

If I have 2 sites and one site is on an AD domain I will call company.local, the other site is on their own AD domain, I will call it companyn.local. Company.local's network is 192.168.1.0/24 while companyn.local's is 192.168.2.0/24

We are installing a point-to-point T1 to connect both offices and I want to remove companyn.local AD and only use company.local.

I will have 2 AD servers, one at both locations.

I see no problem in demoting the AD server at companyn.local and then promoting it to company.local. I understand that I will have to rejoin any workstations that was on companyn.local to company.local. I also know that the users will have to be added to the company.local AD as well.

What will happen to the permissions to the users folders on the companyn.local machine I demote and then promote? Will I have to manually set each folder up or will the server do that when I add the users to the new domain?Start Free Trial
