What kind of servers?  What kind of RAID controller?  Some RAID controllers will let you dynamically change the RAID level - you would simply add another disk and tell the controller to change the RAID from 0 to 5.  (Are you sure it's RAID 0 and not RAID 1 (Mirroring))?

0f you do it in offload times it wont be a big deal. First setup your adc and after sucsesssfull operation try the pdc. let time for a replication between two operationsand better force it, so you will not lose any data that can affect your users. And dont forget to backup your systems before the operations off course.

Already  I set up Additional domain controller on raid 1 with windows server 2003 R2 enterprise , but now i need to set up primary domain controller, PDC is on a super micro server  that can not support raid 5 , it is better for me if advise me , how to down primer domain controller and up it on another physical server ?

my problem is that " before I down PDC , need i do something with FSMO roles on PDC or not"? I afraid about 600 users that connect to domain

If the systems have to come down for a few hours, there should be no problem.  Remember - THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PDC.  In the future, consider purchasing NAME BRAND servers with APPROPRIATE hardware RAID controllers - then this won't be such a chore.  The FSMO masters hand out various chunks of data to other DCs for use by the other DCs.

No you dont need to change fsmo roles for such a quick operation.

To reiterate what has been said, if your two domain controllers are functioning (and replicating properly) your users should not notice any service interruption if one of them goes off line for a few hours. -- Provided that it is not also hosting other services like file sharing.

I assume since you mentioned your "PDC" cannot support RAID 5 you will be adding a new controller and new drives to that server?

If so your general process will be as follows:

1) Verify that your ADC is up and running, and has a current copy of AD (i.e. it has been replicating)
3) Install drivers for new RAID controller
2) Take PDC off line
3) install new RAID controller and drives, setup RAID 5 container
4) user third party utility to image old RAID 0 partition to new RAID 5 parition
5) remove RAID 0 partition from system and make RAID 5 partition active and the boot partition
6) if all goes well Windows will boot to RAID 5 partition and hardly notice a difference.  (Shadow copies will not work, see below)

Disclaimer:  While I have done this with switching harddrives, I haven't tried switching controllers and drives at the same time, you may want to wait for someone to confirm the process and/or be ready to fall back to your original controller and drive configuration if all does not go well)

To repair VSS (Shadow Copies) after such an operation refer to http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/2003_Server/Q_23165703.html

In this situation I would transfer the FSMO roles before I made the hardware changes.  Like others have said it won't be a problem having the roles offline for a short period of time.

Why I say transfer them is what if something goes wrong during the RAID change over.  Now not only are you dealing with a hardware issue but you also have to worry about how long it would be offline and then if the outage is longer maybe even think about seizing the FSMO roles (at least the PDC emulator).

Hopefully nothing will go wrong but there is always the worst cast scenario and transferring the roles gracefully is painless and will only take a few minutes.

Many people transfer the roles before patching/rebooting.  Again it is more "just in case" something happens and your first server doesn't come back up.

dear mkline71

can you tell me about seizing the FSMO roles, and how to transfer FSMO roles to addational domain controller?

by: ThorTheMightyPosted on 2009-01-26 at 01:05:28ID: 23465019

For RID, PDC and Inf. master roles, go to AD users and comps, right clik the domain name and click the operations master role. then select the new role holder in lower box and click change for each role.

For Domain naming master role, get in to ad domains and trust, right clik domains and trust ans the same like others.

For Schema master role go schema master (you have to type "regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll" and hit enter in command line first, if this is the first time you gonna display schema master. Then opem mmc.exe and add the shema master snap inn). And the rest is the same.

by: ThorTheMightyPosted on 2009-01-26 at 01:07:43ID: 23465030

By the way you dont need to seize the roles if current role holder is up and running. Transferring must be the preffered method to change role holder since it has less risk (maybe zero) of data loss. Seize roles only if you lose your role holder and cant set it up again in a timely manner.

I'll first tell you about transferring them gracefully (those two articles should do the trick)

http://www.petri.co.il/transferring_fsmo_roles.htm

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324801

seizing is an operation only done if the original DC is absolutely positively dead.  You use a tool called ntdsutil to do that.  Also once you seize many of the roles the original DC should never be brought  back.  Don't even worry about seizing for now.  It is good to know about but you shouldn't need it.  If it comes to that we can go into more details (I'm sure it won't come to that)
