I have a group that was created in Active Directory with its own email address in exchange. I can send to the email address and everyone that is a user in the active directory that is also a member of this group will get the email. However I had to create a number of contacts in the active directory because they have email addresses that are outside of our network. The reason for doing this is there are confidential email addresses that cannot be seen by anyone else. I am using is a 3rd party software that cannot send bcc so we came up with this idea to add them to a group and just send to the group.

This is the error message that I am getting for all the contacts.

The recipient's e-mail address was not found in the recipient's e-mail system. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please check the e-mail address and try resending this message, or provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator.

When I click on the link for the name in the message from exchange I get this.

IMCEAEX-_O=NT5_ou=FCAF0982885AD449A716DD1E62CA2A55_cn=B9D60C506686C14398DF5FAB83567643@laopera.com

I have looked at the contacts and they are in the Active Directory and there is an email address set up for each one. How do I troubleshoot this issue?

Is this a security group or a distribution group?
If you send directly to the contacts, do you get this?
Are they all AD users whose mail is then forwarded to the contacts, or are they JUST contacts?

Oh, yeah, and does the error message say anything else after that? Like a line saying which server is rejecting it, and the error number?
How about if you send mail to the user or contact from an external host (e.g. gmail, yahoo). Do you get a more informative message that way?

This is just a simple distribution group, but the problem is that the exchange utility we used was designed for the Exchange 2000 server and not the Exchange 2007 one.

This was fixed by added all the contact in at the Exchange Management Counsel and not with the active Directory.
