AD Software to lockout accounts when users are on Vacation/Holiday

Hello all,

We require some of our users to take either 5 or 10 days vacation where they cannot access our systems.  We are currently locking and unlocking the accounts for their Vacation/Holiday time off, but this is getting tedious.

Can someone recommend some software that is designed for this?

Can you not disable them? Not ideal but easier than locking.

It's slightly easier, but I'm really looking for something more automated.  Where we can enter a account name and date, and the software will take care of it.

Currently we lock, then schedule an appointment in Outlook to unlock it.  So that's 2 tasks already.  If someone accidentally unlocks or enabled the account, we would like the software to re-lock or disable it.  I figure the software would have some auditing built in as well.

Does this exist?  What do banks do?

Yes, I appreciate it's a bit clunky, just slightly less.

Well I don't know of anything that will do this. Hopefully someone else has.

I did think of a possible solution that will automate things for you a bit, but it will depend on how many users you are having to work with.

The User account can be edited to never allow login by blanking out the days and hours for a user. This can be run by using a command on the command line. Well if that can be done, then you can use a script. If you use a script, you can schedule a script that can run to disable the login hours all week or whatever.

You can then schedule a script to run on your server on the day that your holiday folk return, giving them access again. Any good?

Thanks for the idea.  If we were going to script something we would probably modify the AD object to either disable or lock the account, not adjust the logon times.

I really want to avoid writing something though if there is something out there that already does this.

Maybe someone knows of a good software product.
