Question

Windows XP Time is 1 hour behind

Asked by: garryshape

There is one computer on my domain that appears to be 1 hour behind in Windows time.

I ran "net time" on it, and it came back with:
Current time at \\ALADS103.intranet.com is 10/27/2009 12:23 PM

But I run the same command on my computer, "net time" and it comes back with:
Current time at \\alads103.intranet.com is 10/27/2009 1:23 PM

I remoted to the server ALADS103 and the time appears fine.

Why is this Windows XP computer showing the server to be: 1.) in all caps, 2.) 1 hour behind its actual time?

The patches and settings are correct on the XP computer. However when I try changing the time forward 1 hour, it reverts back to 1 hour behind after a while, even after rebooting.

Is it just that one box,  make sure this patch is installed

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=66F1420C-DF2D-400B-A8A9-EF9061A9A3CA&displaylang=en

Last weekend was when clocks "were" supposed to go back under the old laws/settings here in the US but that changed in 2007.  Now it is this weekend that the clocks go back an hour.  Seems like that XP box is still using the old settings.

just a hint, check the bios of the computer, it might be a bios time that it is showing, and also daylight saving time, check you language and time settings in windows itself, summertime/wintertime. etc.
hope you find it.

Is the time zone set correctly on this one client ?

by: garryshapePosted on 2009-10-27 at 12:34:35ID: 25676471

Yes, Timezone is set correctly on this client.

I can check the BIOS time, but I'm not sure how that could have been changed if there's a supervisor password.

I agree. Check Are the time Zones and Bios battery good?

If the MS patch does not fix the issue, run this instead:

http://www.intelliadmin.com/DaylightSavingFix.exe

It has been used extensively to fix this well known problem.

by: AmericomPosted on 2009-10-27 at 13:15:24ID: 25676940

If you have patched the DST, the only thing you may want to double check is the time zone. May sure the "Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes" is checked. Keep in mind that the past Sunday, the clock in Europe was set back 1 hour....

The http://www.intelliadmin.com/DaylightSavingFix.exe worked.

I couldn't validate through Windows site to download the patch though. I think it's a firewall issue here at work, as I can never get to Windows Updates but sometimes it works (real annoying having to use a Wsus server).
