Can i keep DNS and DHCP on 2003 DCs after demoting them?

Hello all -

Plan on doing a swing migration from 2003 to 2008.  Plan on installing both DNS and backup DHCP on new 2008 DCs.
Right now, both DNS and DHCP are running on old 2003 DCs.
I plan on pointing all my servers to the new DNS.

After demoting the old 2003 DCs - how will that effect the DNS and DHCP services that are currently running on them?  I'm guessing DNS may get hosed...but im not sure..

thank u for any assistance!

Thanks Mike -

Hey  - just realized that you helped me out on the last question.  Thanks again!

I will definetely keep DHCP on the old boxes - no reason not too.
Other than making sure that they have replicated DNS with the other server prior to uninstalling  DNS from the old DC - any thing i need to do on the new DCs as far as DNS?  Active Directory integrated DNS is pretty straightforward from what i remember the last time we did this....
No problem,  as long as DNS has replicated to the new DCs then you are fine in terms of DNS.  I would demote first then uninstall DNS.

Thanks

Hi,
As far as DNS is concerned, you can keep it running on a member server as well but you will have to change the replication scope of the zone to "All DNS servers in the domain".

Thanks,

Arun.
He also loses the benefits of active directory integrated DNS if he leaves DNS on a member server.

Thanks
