asked on
making dynamic groups in AD....
This question has sort of been asked before, but in our organization there is not a whole lot of vb/powershell coders and I wanted to know:
Is there any way to create dynamic groups (security/distribution) so that if wanted to create a new group (Computer.engineers) you could give it a query for AD that says "if their department==computer engineers then put them in the new group), So that we could do this with department, location, etc.
It's probably better if it uses a 3rd party tool actually because then we wouldn't have to worry about people knowing the queries and stuff and then they could just plug things in....

Have them demo it and definitely use the trial before you spend the cash...just make sure it meets your requirments.

ASKER
definitely. The CIO is adamant about finding something that's not hand coded so I'm just looking for possibilities.
Scott has a nice example here http://blog.scottlowe.org/2006/05/19/semi-automatic-security-groups/ I know there aer not a lot of vb/PS guys there but you may be able to follow that.
I'll let you know if I find a good 3rd party tool that does it.
Thanks
